LEGO® Technic™ integration with Raspberry Pi Build HAT

What happens when two renowned brands collaborate together with a common goal of empowering students to introduce computer coding & digital technologies to classrooms to further enhance skills and shape the world? We are sure it leads to meaningful discoveries.

With the integration of LEGO® Technic™ and Raspberry Pi Build HAT (Hardware Attached on Top), children can now take advantage of innumerable possibilities and give shape to their inventive ideas. So, get ready for some fun, creative learning experiences and challenge your previous status-quo by making way for new adventures & learnings.

Essentially, the Raspberry Pi Build HAT will be an add-on hardware device that allows students to control their LEGO® Technic motors and sensors from the Python coding running on Raspberry Pi. Additional HATs, and other components can be added to the GPIO pins for more complex functionalities.

To ensure an uninterrupted build, LEGO® also introduces a Maker Plate to mount the Raspberry Pi and ensure stability while operating the device.

As an introductory launch, Build HAT is priced at $25. We think the price is pretty reasonable for its usability and ease of connectivity to the 40-pin GPIO header that can control up to four LEGO® Technic™ motors and sensors from the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Portfolio.

The makers also give users access to a HAT Python Library to make it easy to build prototypes for first-time users. The Library already supports most products from the LEGO® SPIKE™ Prime portfolio and also other devices that use the LPF2 connector.

Smartphone Enabled Robots

Controlling robots through an app on your smartphones is currently in trend and they are indeed very helpful to those who are busy with work and don’t have time for mundane chores such as keeping the house clean by making use of cleaning robots. There are also other domestic humanoid robots to help the elderly run errands.

Similarly, Raspberry Pi Build HAT and LEGO® Technic, has made it possible to give students an opportunity to build robots with LEGO blocks and control them using the programmed devices on their smartphones.

Wear your brilliant thinking-hats and let’s see what you build next with two powerful resources on your lab table- Raspberry Pi Build HAT and your favorite LEGO® Technic™ kit.
